"Beneath the Veil"

 by Nancy MacInnis

Though she covers her womanhood
unashamed - she removes it to wipe His face
as He carries the wood

Though she hides her every tear
unhesitating - she removes it to wipe His face
with no fear

Though she shields her face from the sun
heedless - she removes it to wipe His face
The Holy One

Though she veils her love and waits·
promptly - she removes it to wipe His face
whereupon His image paints
