The Eric FAQ!

Who is Eric C. Smith?

(I have often considered what, if anything, I would say about myself in this media, not quite sure how much I wanted you folks to know about me. I leave it to the little I have posted below, as well as what you might gleen from the various web sites I have created and currently maintain.)

I am a native Floridian, though I wasn't raised in Florida. I spent most of my years growing up in Mew Mexico, and didn't move back down to Florida until I was an adult. My family moved to Brevard County in the summer of 1980. I can tell you that moving from the arid summers of New Mexico to the humid summers of Florida very nearly killed me. In fact, I'm still not quite used to the hummidity. My friends from the seventies and the early eighties would hardly recognize me now. Not that I've changed much in appearance since then, but rather I have changed my personality a great deal. I like to think that I actually have a personality now:-)

Is he really a Rocket Scientist?

Well, to be completely honest. . . No. I'm not.

I do, on the other hand, work for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, thats NASA, as an Electronic Engineer, and am classified as an AST 855, Ground Hardware Systems Engineer. Most of my work for the past few years has been in working Cable Systems and DC Power Systems in support of the International Space Station. I also work Electromagnetic Compatibility, serving as the resident expert in the Design Organization at KSC. I was recently assigned to my first project working with actual flight hardware, and believe me, I'm not sorry they waited this l;ong to let me. Working Ground Support Equipment is much easier. At least it involves less paperwork.

But if you ask me face-to-face, my answer will be . . . Why yes, I am a rocket scientist.
